El Mirador De Yanahuara
Built in the 19th century, the Yanahuara lookout point has the best views of Arequipa and is one of the city’s tourist emblems.
It is located in the district of Yanahuara and consists of ten ashlar arches, in a walk from where you can get an excellent panoramic view of the White City and the surrounding volcanoes.
In each of the arches there are inscriptions that belong to verses of important poets born in Arequipa.
Being close to the center of the city, its visit can be done on foot without difficulty and its tour does not demand more than half a day at most. While walking, you can also visit the Yanahuara neighborhood, which is very nice.
What to see and do in the Mirador de Yanahuara?
Take the best panoramic pictures of Misti and the city. The best views of the city, of Misti and also of Chachani and Picchu Picchu Picchu are here. So get your camera ready before you go and take home a beautiful souvenir of Arequipa’s landscape.
Visit the Church of San Juan de Yanahuara. Next to the viewpoint is this beautiful baroque church, which was built in 1750 and is worth a visit.
Appreciate the old district where it is located. The district of Yanahuara is one of the most traditional of the city and where you can best see the typical houses built in sillar. Its narrow cobblestone streets are ideal for a break and a leisurely walk.
Buy food and/or handicrafts. Being one of the most recognized and visited tourist sites in Arequipa, you will see craft and food vendors. It is a good place to buy souvenirs. We also recommend that you try the classic “queso helado arequipeño”.
Read the inscriptions engraved on its arches. On the arches of the viewpoint you will see numerous engraved phrases. The authors of these verses are poets from Arequipa.

Recommendations
At what time is it best to visit? The best time of day to appreciate the views from the lookout point is at sunset. Although it is best to check the weather forecast and go when there are fewer clouds, which will allow you to better observe the volcanoes.
Free admission. To access the Mirador de Yanahuara you do not have to pay any entrance fee. Access is free at any time of the day.
Other viewpoints. In addition to Yanahuara, we recommend visiting other beautiful viewpoints such as Sachaca and Carmen Alto, where you will also have beautiful views but from other angles.
What to bring? First and foremost, your camera. If you walk, wear good footwear so as not to tire or hurt your feet and wear a hat or cap and sunglasses. It is also a good idea to carry cash in case you feel like buying food or souvenirs.
