I didn’t even have Peru on my bucket list, but once I visited, I couldn’t get enough! Great people, great food, great weather! And the historic sites are magnificent!
Caral is not the easiest place to visit, but it is worth a day trip from Lima, highly recommended.
As for the site, it was nice. In the background were the mountains with a lot of sand. While I realize this site is 5,000 years old, I’m not as impressed as I was with Machu Picchu, Pisac, and Ollantaytambo.
But it is worth visiting, you will learn a lot about history.
So about Caral: I’ve seen quite a few archeological sites around the world (Egypt, Beijing, Petra etc) and I was pleasantly surprised! I wasn’t expecting there to be a lot, but there are multiple pyramid ruins, engravings, and really interesting discoveries about the ancient civilisation; including their incredible understanding of physics, level of organisation and peaceful society.
